Chile advanced to the knockout stage as Group A winners with 7 points and most goals scored of any team in the tournament (10). In the final, Chile defeated Argentina on penalties (4–1) after a 0–0 draw, to win their first Copa America title.

Chile was one of the thirteen national teams that competed in the inaugural World Cup in 1930.
